Creative ability:
Last year’s feedback I got told that I do sufficient research on different materials and ways to express my artistic vision. I tried to implement my research into my work for the last assignment of term 3.1, where we had to make a publication, and choose a publisher/company to propose it to. The publisher of my choice publishes novels and comics with unique styles and stories to tell, from all over the world. I made a graphic novel that explores the theme of not having an identity, or in this case ‘shape’. I took the inspiration from my search of identity and insights I had during the time I stayed home during the corona crisis. In the novel, I (the main character) delve into my mind and find different animals that give my advice in metaphors, I change my shape according to the advice given and slowly attain my final true appearance. In this graphic novel I had the freedom to fully implement and experiment with my own style and vision, I used textures and shapes that I associate with my surroundings and feelings and in this way enhanced my personal story with my personal, unique visuals.

Ability to reflect critically
Even though I reflected upon my work systematically during the development of projects, it took a lot of effort from me to ask directly for feedback constantly from teachers and/or peers. This year I learned to be more confident in asking for, and receiving, feedback. For the social practice project, I had to work together with two students from other majors, and we together had to work together closely with a company to develop an app for them.
Since making an app was not my expertise, I had to work together closely with my team members, even though that was not always easy because of covid. I learned a lot from them by meeting up to discuss our progress and helping each other. I focused mostly on making the illustrations, but I had to work together with the others to implement them into the app and to see how it works together with the brand of the company. Because of the limited chances to meet up, I had to actively ask for feedback during the meetups and use their feedback wisely in my designs.

Ability to grow and change
My feedback from last assessment was that I should keep searching for interaction with my peers and people from outside of the academy in order for me to grow artistically. I used this feedback during the development of the project of my social practice, New Earth. Me and two other team members had to collaborate with a company that focusses on ecoliteracy to make an app for them.
I grew in multiple ways during this project.
1. I had to do detailed and thorough research into my subject matter. I learned different research methods such as system mapping, and implemented this reseach into my design.
2. I learned how to collaborate with an already existing company, how to combine my own artistic vision with their brand.
3. I learned from my team-members. They are from product design and spatial design. In my work, my illustrations are mostly the end product, I learned from them how to implement my illustrations into something else, an app in this case.

Organizational ability
In past projects, I have been messy with documenting the process of a certain project that I am making, since I had bad organizational skills. I worked on my procrastination last year, but I realized I still need to improve on my documenting skills. I worked on this while making my conversation starter in this last term. I made a little mascot/doll that represented myself to send to potential internship spaces or clients. I documented the making of the doll and made a gif out of it to give people an insight in how I work, this can make my project feel more personal.
Communicative ability
I had to make a conversation starter to introduce myself and my work to potential clients and internship spaces. I wanted to do something special in order to gain attention and stimulate interaction, so instead of only working in 2d like usually, I made a 3D object. I created a mascot to represent myself for all my future work/projects, and turned it into a little doll for people to put it into their own spaces. In this way, the receiver gets into a conversation with me by placing my doll somewhere, as such I am part of their lives. I encourage the receiver to send me a picture of where they placed me on a card that is inside the box of the doll.

Context awareness
Placing my work in context is important to me. I take time to do sufficient research before and during the development of my projects. For example, I had to make designs for the New Earth project of making an app for a company that focuses on ecoliteracy, encourages people to recycle waste and buy environmental friendly products. While making the design-choices and deciding on several features of the app, I had to keep in mind the target audience of the app. The target audience were students that did not have sufficient money to buy the more expensive, sustainable options of products, so I developed a reward system of the app that gives people discounts on those products.

We all had different tasks during the project, but ended up working together by giving detailed feedback and helping eachother during the process of realizing our idea. I tried to use my own vision in making illustrations and animations for the project, and asked for feedback and help on how to implement my illustrations in the app, and how to combine my illustrations with the existing branding of the company that the app was made for. I helped the other two students in storytelling and visualizing their ideas for the app. In this way, we worked together closely and supported eachother.
